Kilnside Energy Park
Introducing Kilnside
Kilnside is a proposed solar farm with battery storage located to the northwest of Great Casterton in Rutland. It is being developed by Aukera and would make a significant contribution to the fight against climate change, while helping to provide energy security and reduce energy costs.
Project News
The project is currently at an early stage of development. We hosted an initial series of webinars earlier this summer, to outline our early ideas for the project and to demonstrate the process we will be undertaking to seek planning permission for the energy park.
We will soon be in touch again to provide an update on the emerging proposals, and to answer any questions you may have about how the planning process works, or how we intend to assess and minimise any potential impacts.

Development process
Kilnside Energy Park is classed as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) because it would generate more than 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Given the scale of the contribution that Kilnside would make to the UK’s energy supply, applications for NSIPs are determined at a national level rather than by local authorities. Consultation is an important part of the development process.
